27 Bible Verses about Children

Children are a blessing from the Lord. They are a gift, and we should cherish them as such.

Our children are not our own. They belong to God, and we must raise them accordingly. This means teaching them about the Christian faith, and instilling in them moral values that will help them grow into responsible adults.

Lastly, we need to remember that we ourselves are also children of God. As such, we have many of the same rights and responsibilities as our earthly children do. We are loved by God unconditionally, and we have a duty to live our lives in a way that pleases him.

The following Bible verses about children are a wonderful reminder of God's love for us, and the blessings He bestows upon His children.

Children are a Blessing

Psalm 127:3-5

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Proverbs 17:6

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.

John 16:21

When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

3 John 1:4

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Exodus 20:12

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Ephesians 6:1-4

Colossians 3:20

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

2 Timothy 3:14-15

God’s Heart for Children

Matthew 18:10

See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

Mark 10:13-16

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Matthew 19:14

Romans 8:14-17

Galatians 3:26

He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.

1 John 3:1

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

1 John 3:9-10

A Prayer for Children

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for the blessing of children. They are a precious gift from you, and we know that you have a special love for them. We pray that you would protect them and keep them safe from harm. Guide them and help them to grow in wisdom and grace. Teach them to love others as they love themselves, and to always trust in your goodness and mercy. Amen.
